Ashley stopped by this tremendous fundraiser for cancer research and funding and had the chance to meet some great people! She was so excited to get a snapshot with designer Alex Garfield and view his pieces as work by models in the fashion show. She was also thrilled to meet two of her favorite actors, Tim & Daphne Reid!

Dressed in all pink, Ashley showed up at the Pink Gala to greet the guests and enjoy the festivities. Produced by Families Who Support Breast Cancer Survivors, Inc., this Pink Gala was in its first year and was a great success. Ashley posed for pictures with guests and vendors.

Sassy Shoe Gallery, an online shoe boutique, is the official shoe sponosr of Miss United States 2011. Based in Richmond, VA, Ashley met with the owner of the company to thank them for their sponsorship and get her newest pair of their fabulous shoes!









September 24, 2011 | Sisters' Network Central Virginia's "Gift for Life Block Walk" | Hobson Lodge; Richmond, VA

Ashley, along with Ms. United States 2011 Laura Eilers, was invited to speak to the participants in the Block Walk during the Opening Ceremonies. She discussed the positive progression of men and youth participing in breast cancer awareness activities and congratulated all walkers for supporting such a worthy cause.

Ashley stopped by to again visit her sponsor and personally thank them for their support of her and the Miss United States Organization. She delivered thank-you cards to the owner and other employees and spoke with executives about the two groups working together again during her year of service.

Ashley had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Pure Dymonds Events to discuss a working relationship between the business and the Miss United States Organization. Ashley was very gracious for the meeting and chatted with the owner about how the two groups could support each other in the future.

September 20, 2011 | City of Virginia Beach Proclamation Ceremony | City Hall; Virginia Beach, VA

As a resident of Virginia Beach, VA, Ashley was invited to City Hall to receive a proclamation personally presented by the Mayor! The proclamation commended her on becoming Miss United States and named her an official ambassador of the City. The Mayor held a private ceremony in his office for Ashley with her family present.






September 20, 2011 | Inside Business Magazine's "Top 40 Under Forty" Photo Shoot | Harbor Park Station; Norfolk, VA

Ashley was awarded the presitgious honor of being selected as one of Inside Business Magazine's "Top 40 Under Forty" for 2011! In fact, at age 23 Ashley was this year's youngest award recipient! In preparation of the speical publication, she participated in a photo shoot in Norfolk, VA. Here's a sneak peek photo!








September 18, 2011 | Dominion League Roller Derby Bout | Haygood Roller Skating Center; Virginia Beach, VA

Ashley had the unique opportunity to be a VIP guest at an all-women's roller derby bout! She was recognized during halftime of the game and had special seating on the rink! She had a great time relaxing and enjoying the game.

September 18, 2011 | State Farm's "Bridging the Gap" Education Fundraiser | Brighton Rock AME Zion Church; Portsmouth, VA

State Farm has developed initiatives to reach youth in cities and regions nationwide. A local State Farm Agency representative in the Hampton Roads, VA area produced a fundraiser to aide local projects for providing more opportunities for its children and Ashley was invited to briefly address the crowd and pose for pictures with guests. Ashley also had the opportunity to perform with the featured back during the fundraiser!

September 18, 2011 | Pink Mermaid Cruise | Spirit of Norfolk; Norfolk, VA

Ashley was invited to participate in a cruise aboard the Spirit of Norfolk for breast cancer awareness, which is her personal platform of choice. During the cruise, Ashley participated in a fashion show sponsored by a department store in MacArthur Mall in Norfolk and had a great time! Ashley was asked to speak to those on the cruise about her platform and what she hopes to accomplish with it during her year of service.

Ashley was invited to participate in a cruise aboard the Spirit of Norfolk for breast cancer awareness, which is her personal platform of choice. During the cruise, Ashley participated in a fashion show sponsored by a department store in MacArthur Mall in Norfolk and she met with other models to select a wardrobe for the event!

September 17, 2011 | Agape Ministries' "Uplift" Program" | Fredericksburg, VA

This program was conducted to provide young people in the Fredericksburg area with a new perspective on life in hopes of opening their eyes to real matters of the world. Ashley was a keynote speaker for the event, imparting valuable knowledge on the young people in attendance. Ashley discussed several important steps to achieving your goals, inlcuding having a specific plan of action and taking time out for yourself. The youth were very excited to see Ashley and each thanked her for her attendance!


September 16, 2011 | Umoja Fest Parade & VIP Reception | Portsmouth, VA

The Umoja Fest is a celebration of African-American history and heritage for members of the surrounding community. Ashley was highlighted as one of today's prestigious members of the African-American community and was the Grand Marshall of the Umoja Fest Parade! She would later be recognized and speak during the Opening Ceremonies of the event and mix & mingle at the festival's VIP Reception.

The Wil LaVeist Radio Show discusses pertinent political and social issues that matter to those in Hampton Roads, VA and the surrounding areas. Ashley was invited on the show to discuss her year as Miss United States and explaining to listeners why she believes pageants are still relevant. She also shared information about the Miss United States Organization and how interested youg women can find out how to become the next Miss United States!

Thank you to Nissan of Chesapeake for lending Miss United States a brand new Nissan Murano Cross Cabriolet for her upcoming parade! Ashley stopped by teh dealership to personally thank the owner and discuss the regulations of the lease before picking up the car the following week for her parade.




September 4, 2011 | Labor Day Parade | Buena Vista, VA

Ashley served as the Grand Marshall of the Homecoming Parade in the town of Buena Vista! The hometown of MUSO National Director Chris Wilmer, Buena Vista welcomed Ashley with open arms and invited her to take part in events after the parade as well. Ashley was joined in the parade by the other Virginia representatives in the Miss United States Organization and they all had the opportunity to meet several people running for election in the town's district! Thank you to Becky's of Buena Vista for providing a fabulous wardrobe for the girls to wear during the parade and Labor Day festivities!




September 4, 2011 | Community Vesper Gospel Concert | Buena Vista, VA

One of the mainstays of Labor Day Celebrations in Buena Vista, VA is a gospel concert conducted on Sunday evening. Ashley attended the concert and  performed for the audience by leading a group of volunteers in a rendition of "Amazing Grace". She also briefly addressed the crowd and thanked them for having her. The emcee of the event also alluded to the fact that Ashley would serve as the Grand Marshall of the town's Labor day Parade the following day!






September 4, 2011 | Photo Shoot for Virginia Bride Magazine | Buena Vista, VA

The Virginia representatives under the Miss United States Organization were invited to model for the Winter Issue of Virginia Bride Magazine. Ashley joined Ms. United States Laura Eilers, Miss Teen United States Ashley Greenfield, and Miss Junior Teen Virginia United States Shania Weaver to model bridal gowns from Becky's in Buena Vista for the magazine. September 3, 2011 | University of Virginia Football Game | Charlottesville, VA

Ashley traveled to UVA with Ms. United States 2011 Laura Eilers and Chris Wilmer, the National Director of the Miss United States Organization. Chris has been an avid supporter of UVA for many years and invited the two ladies to enjoy the first game of the year and take pictures with fans!

Ashley has been an anchorwoman and reporter for WCTV Chesapeake Television, the local education and municipal station for the City of Chesapeake, VA for the past four years and the station was thrilled to learn that she had won Miss United States! She was a guest on the station's variety show and shared with viewers some of the exciting events she had coming up. She took pictures with the station staff and had a great time visiting with them!



August 25, 2011 | Regent University "UNChapel" | Library Auditorium; Virginia Beach, VA

UNChapel is a weekly service held at Regent University designed to appeal to college-age students. There is contemporary music and unconventional messages delivered. Ashley was invited to speak at the first UNChapel of the year about her journey to the Miss United States crown and impart with her colleagues knowledge about perseverance and believing in yourself.




August 24, 2011 | Interview with Regent University Marketing & Public Relations Department | Virginia Beach, VA

Regent University is proud to claim Miss United States as one of their distinguished students. Its intention was to release a number of articles about Ashley's accomplishment and interviewed her on this day. A story placed on the Home Page of Regent's website and a write-up in the university's "Christian leader magazine" were the result of this interview!

August 21, 2011 | Michael Vonal Photo Shoot | Sterling, VA

Ashley traveled to the Michael Vonal Studio to take her first official photos as Miss United States. Joining her at her photo shoot were Miss Teen United States Ashley Greenfield and Ms. United States Laura Eilers. The ladies had a wonderful time working with Michael and catching up with each other on the progress of their respective years!







August 20, 2011 | Church of God in Christ Banquet | Sheraton Waterside; Norfolk, VA

Mingling with guests and enjoying their company, Ashley made an appearance at this banquet attending by members of the Church of God in Christ. She also met a little girl who was a huge fan of her! Ashley gave the little girl a special gift as a keepsake of their chance meeting. If you look closely at her right hand, the little girl is happily sporting her new bling ring!






August 20, 2011 | Back to School Cookout & Fellowship | Providence AME Zion Church; Portsmouth, VA

Ashley attended this event, which encouraged youth throughout the community to have a focused mindset as they return back to classes from summer break. An afternoon of games, food and fun, the fellowship event inlcuded various activities for the local children to enjoy. Ashley was invited to speak in front of the attendees about the importance of obtaining good grades and taking school seriously. She shared personal stories with the kids in hopes of inspiring them to be excellent students upon returning to classes.


August 20, 2011 | Black Expo Tour | Hampton Roads Convention Center; Hampton, VA

The Black Expo is an event that seeks to highlight African-American owned & operated businesses throughout the community. The expo travels across the country and on this day made a stop to Virginia. Ashley was invited to the Expo as a special celebrity guest. She visited each major sponsor's booth and thanked them for their contribution on behalf of the Black Expo. She also had the chance to meet with other celebrity guests, including one of her favorite actors Clifton Powell!





August 20, 2011 | Interview with Pageant Blogger Lisa Hicks | Chesapeake, VA

Interested in breaking many of the negative stereotypes associated with pageantry, Lisa Hicks is a beauty pageant blogger dedicated to providing examples of beauty queens who are making a difference in the community. Lisa spent time with Ashley that morning to document her thoughts on a number of issues, including her perspective on race and weight discrimations for youmg women entering pageants. Ashley had an enjoyable time relaying her thoughts to Lisa and expressing her true delightment in the pageant industry.

The Black Expo is an event that seeks to highlight African-American owned & operated businesses throughout the community. The expo travels across the country and on this day made a stop to Virginia. Ashley was invited to their kickoff event to mix & mingle with guests and show appreciation for sponsors and volunteers who made the event possible. Miss Black Virginia USA 2011 Christie Black (a former Miss Virginia United States) emceed the affair.


August 19, 2011 | Meeting with Virginia Industry Relations and Film | Richmond, VA

Looking to expand her versatility as an on-air personality, Ashley explored the possibility of working with her state's film industry organization to gain opportunities to study acting. Sharing this information with the Vice President of the organization, Ashley formed a relationship with VIRF and started on a journey to growing and developing her craft.

August 19, 2011 | Virginia This Morning | WTVR CBS 6; Richmond, VA

Ashley visited this CBS affiliatefor their special morning show, in which she chatted with news hosts about her experience so far as Miss United States. After sharing some laughs and insightful information, Ashley shared with the interviewers that she aspires to be a broadcast journalist. In response, the interviewers put Ashley on the spot by asking her to take the show to the commerical break! Of course, Ashley handled the surprise with elegance and grace.






August 17, 2011 | 700 Club | CBN; Virginia Beach, VA

One of the most well-known nationally-syndicated Christian shows on air today, the 700 Club offers a variety of topics pertinent to today's Christian. Ashley was interviewed live on the show to discuss her journey to become Miss United States, what inspired her to start a pageant career, and what message she plans to spread during her year of service. Ashley shared with her interviewer that she aspires to have a career in broadcasting, and the interviewer let her "throw" to the commercial break!


August 14, 2011 | Special City of Chesapeake Proclamation Reading | First Baptist Church Gilmerton; Chesapeake, VA

Chesapeake Mayor Alan Krasnoff was so impressed with Ashley's title that he offered to read her city proclamation in front of her church family! The Mayor visited Ashley's church that morning and praised Ashley for her hard work and dedication. He then read the proclamation in front of the congregation and asked Ashley to share a few words. Ashley so extremely honored and humbled that the Mayor of her hometown made such a special effort to congratulate her. She extended her sincere thanks for the Mayor's efforts.


August 9, 2011 | City of Chesapeake Proclamation Ceremony | City Hall; Chesapeake, VA

As a native of Chesapeake, VA, Ashley was invited to City Hall to receive a proclamation from the City Council and personally presented by the Mayor! The proclamation commended her on becoming Miss United States and named her an official ambassador of the City. The Mayor held a private ceremony in his office for Ashley before inviting her to publicly thank City Council at their regular meeting. also receiving proclamations that evening were the titleholders for the City of Chesapeake.




August 7, 2011 | Miss United States Homecoming Celebration | Mt. Moriah United Church of Christ; Waverly, VA

Ashley has been an organist at the church which her father pastors since the age of 16, and the church family was very excited to hear that she had won the title of Miss United States. Ashley visited the church and thanked them for their support of her pageant career for the past seven years. Church members congratulated Ashley personally after service, posing for pictures with her and recognizing the awesome opportunities she would be afforded. Referhments were also served in her honor.


August 6, 2011 | Visit to "Hosannah Prophetic Intercessors, Inc." |  Chesapeake, VA

Prior to being named Miss United States, Ashley served as a musician at this church for several months. Upon her return home, the church invited her to make an appearance and commended her on her incredible achievement. Before service began, Ashley posed for pictures with the Apostle and First Lady. She then performed during the service to the enjoyment of the congregation.




July 30, 2011 | Central Virginia Hip-Hop Showcase | Main Street Arena; Charlottesville, VA

A celebration of this genre of music, the Central Virginia Hip-Hop Showcase invited Ashley to greet guests and mingle with guests. Ashley congratulated the organizers on a successful event and wished everyone well on showcasing their talents on stage that evening.






July 30, 2011 | Chihamba's 21st Annual African American Cultural Arts Festival | Booker T. Washington Park; Charlottesville, VA

A celebration of African American history and heritage, this festival brought members of surrounding communities together for a joyous and memorable occassion. Ashley toured the festival, taking pictures and signing autographs. She was interviewed by local media about her interpretation of the signficance of remembering black history and later addressed attendees of the festival on stage.






July 29, 2011 | Visit to "Face Value Studio, Salon & Barber Shop" | Charlottesville, VA

This is unique and fun salon provided cosmetic services to Ashley's pageant sisters Laura Eilers and Ashley Greenfield before they were crowned at the national pageant in Las Vegas. Ashley decided to stop by the salon and thank them for all of their hard work that led to the attinment of two nationwide titles! Additionally, the salon provided her with a sample of one of their signature services-- hair feathers! Ashley looked fabulous and enjoyed her new accessory.





July 29, 2011 | Commerical Shoot for "Spring Street Boutique" | Charlottesville, VA

One of the official wardrobe sponsors of the Miss United States Organization is Spring Street Boutique, and shortly after crowning Ashley was invited to shoot a locally-televised commerical for the retail store! She was joined by her pageant sisters Miss United States 2012 Jessica Black, Miss Teen United States 2011 Ashley Greenfield, and Ms. United States 2011 Laura Eilers. The ladies had a great time and even got to take home a few new items to add to their wardrobe!



July 28, 2011 | Photo Shoot for the Virginian-Pilot | Chesapeake, VA

To couple the extensive interview Ashley conducted with the Virginian-Pilot, a photo shoot was also scheduled to get candids of Miss United States in her natural environment. Photographers met Ashley in one of her most comfortable atmospheres-- choir rehearsal at church! As a Minister of Music, Ashley plays for and directs church choirs on a weekly basis. Spectacular pictures were taken during this rehearsal and used along with her generous write-up.


July 26, 2011 | Interview with the Virginian-Pilot | Norfolk, VA

One of the most well-known news publications from Ashley's hometown is the Virginian-Pilot, and they were very proud of her for bringing the Miss United States crown back to Virginia! They conducted an interview with her to learn more about her passion for breast cancer awareness, how she felt when she won, and her pland after she passes on the title. They would later post an incredible article about Ashley on the cover of the regional section of the statewide newspaper!

July 24, 2011 | Miss United States Homecoming Celebration | First Baptist Church Gilmerton; Chesapeake, VA

Shortly after returning home from Las Vegas, Ashley's church family surprised her with a homecoming celebration of epic proportions! She was recognized and congratulated during morning worship service and refreshments were served thereafter in her honor. There was even a congratulatory sign for Ashley placed above the choir stand! However, what she remembers the most from this party was the impact she had on young girls to puruse pageant careers and follow in her footsteps.


July 23, 2011 | Radio One's "Healthy, Wealthy & Wise" Expo | Old Dominion Building at the Richmond Raceway Complex; Richmond, VA

A passionate advocate of breast cancer awareness and education, Ashley supported an organization of her home state dedicated to assisting families that have been impacted by the disease. Named "Families Who Support Breast Cancer Survivors, Inc.", this group disseminated information about breast cancer and enlightened those in attendance at the Expo. Ashley was on hand to answer any questions about the disease and serve as a celebrity guest.



July 23, 2011 | Men of Faith 2nd Annual Leadership Conference | Law Enforcement Training Academy (LETA); Virginia Beach, VA

Ashley's first official appearance as Miss United States was to address a group of girls from urban communities about maintaining a positive self-image. Ashley encouraged them to form a plan of action for their future and never let anything deter them from achieving their dreams. Afterwards, she had the opportunity to answer any questions these young ladies had and speak with them privately about how to overcome the obstacles that come with self-identity and development.

July 13-14, 2011 | Miss Junior Teen, Miss Teen, Miss, & Ms. United States Pageants | New Orleans Hotel & Casino; Las Vegas, NV

United States Pageant Finals were held in fabulous Las Vegas in 2011, and four lovely new ladies were corwned to carry on the tradition of representing the United States of America via this impactful organization. Along with Miss United States 2011 Ashley Smith (Virginia), Laura Eilers was crowned Ms. United States (Virginia), Ashley Greenfield was crowned Miss Teen United States (Virginia), and Olivia Caputo was crowned Miss Junior Teen United States (Florida)!
